Chinese silk fine art in early Qing dynasty observations from historical literature

This article analyses in some detail the silk fabrics that appear in a historical literary work of the early Qing dynasty, Dream of the Red Chamber, a famous autobiographical work in which the author describes many of the details of the fabrics based on his own experiences and his family's inextricable links with the imperial silk factories of Jiangnan during the Kangxi period. The text also cross-referenced historical archives to show the exquisite silk fashion at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the pursuit and enjoyment of luxurious silk and imported fabrics by the aristocracy class in the early Qing dynasty, and how this mode affected the lives of ordinary people. Este artículo analiza con cierto detalle los tejidos de seda que aparecen en una obra literaria histórica de principios de la dinastía Qing, Sueño en el Pabellón Rojo, una famosa obra autobiográfica en la que el autor describe muchos de los detalles de los tejidos basándose en sus propias experiencias y en los inextricables vínculos de su familia con las fábricas de seda imperiales de Jiangnan durante el periodo Kangxi. El texto también cruza archivos históricos para mostrar la exquisita moda de la seda en el cambio de los siglos XVII y XVIII, la búsqueda y el disfrute de la seda lujosa y las telas importadas por parte de la clase aristocrática a principios de la dinastía Qing, y cómo esta moda afectó a la vida de la gente corriente.
