To better grasp the latest research on distributed optical fiber sensing (DOFS), this paper has screened 861 relevant scientific articles from Web of Science Core Collection database from 2010 to 2021 employing CiteSpace to conduct mapping knowledge domains, which is the first time to analyze from the perspective of bibliometrics in the domain. The findings indicate that publications are in a stage of rapid development, involving a wide range of fields. The paper reveals how the research topics have changed over time and investigates the current research hotspot. The paper presents the most prolific institutions and prominent authors of DOFS signal processing and pattern recognition. Moreover, this paper also reports some key literature with high co-citation intensity. It highlights the research characteristic of application fields, feature extraction, and model methods according to the profound information in the mapping knowledge domains. Finally, the future research trend of the domain is prospected.
