摘要
Stability and self-cleaning effect of superhydrophobic cement surfaces can be easily destroyed by abrasion or the severe conditions. A robust superhydrophobic cement block is successfully prepared by agitating sand and cement mixture with a stearic acid-water emulsion. It shows a contact angle of 155.2 ± 2° and sliding angle of 8.5°. Tests prove its excellent self-cleaning effect and high durability. The superhydrophobic nature of the cement block is not affected after both abrasion and knife scratching, confirming superhydrophobicity is obtained not just on the cement surface but the entire cement block. The method has its advantages in facile operating procedure, cost-effective materials and environmental-friendliness. The excellent properties provide it great potential for the industrial applications of superhydrophobic cement surfaces.
