In this paper, the discrete transfer function model of PSS is proposed to damp out the low frequency oscillations and stabilizing the signal frequency oscillations in PHILLIP – HAFFRON model of single machine infinite bus system. The continuous mode PSS is tuned with various methods like P-Vr method, GEP method and residue method. Further, the continuous mode PSS is converted into discrete mode. The conversion process of continuous to discrete mode is performed on MATLAB platform, which is employed into the test power system. The performance of the designed PSSs are measured in the form of speed deviation of generator with respect to time of the test system.
