Abstract The article describes the synthesis of 2,2‐dichloroimidazolidine‐4,5‐dione. Dihaloimidazolidinediones exhibit electrophilic characteristics applicable to the synthesis of, inter alia , dioxoguanides or imidazolidinetriones upon treatment with primary amines or water, respectively. The dihaloimidazolidinediones and their carbene derivatives may be considered as privileged reagents envisioned for use in a range of transition metal‐mediated and organocatalyzed transformations.
