The new lithium aluminum borate glasses with Tb3 + doping are fabricated using the melt quenching procedure. The non-crystalline nature of the fabricated samples was confirmed using X- ray diffraction. Appropriate formulas are used to calculate molar volume, density, polaron radius, ion concentration, field strength and inter ionic distance. The FT-IR spectra were recorded to know the functional groups. The spectra of Raman were recorded in the wave number range 200 to 1600 per cm. The absorbance of the fabricated samples were taken in the region of 200 nm – 1100 nm using UV–Visible spectrophotometer. (αhν)n verses hν plots were used to evaluate the energy band gaps and the variation of optical energy gap with Tb3+ ion concentration has been discussed. The refractive index of these fabricated glasses have been found by Dimitrov and Sakka relation. The theoretical values of interaction parameter, optical basicity and electronic polarizability were found by appropriate formulae. The obtained results were analyzed with respect to the concentration of Tb3+ ions.
