Epidural analgesia after surgery: time to review the gold standard?

We read with great interest the recently published work by Patel and colleagues evaluating the association between epidural analgesia and length of stay (LOS) among different surgeries.[1][1] The authors concluded that epidural analgesia reduced the LOS after abdominal surgeries by a median of 1.4
