MET exon 14 skipping (METex14skipping) and amplification (METamp) are two important MET alterations in NSCLC with distinct oncogenic roles. A comprehensive molecular profiling study of lung adenocarcinoma by The Cancer Genome Atlas Research Network revealed that METex14skipping is a key driver mutation that is mutually exclusive with EGFR activating mutations/indels, while METamp represents one of the common mechanisms of acquired resistance to EGFR-TKIs. However, the concurrent detection of these two MET alterations in the same NSCLC patient and/or tumor tissue is rarely reported.
