Such research investigates the behaviour of solar particles and galactic cosmic rays in response to solar wind variations with timescales up to the order of days. Long term modulation forms part of SH4. The papers in the main discussed aspects of particle propagation, particle responses to corotating interaction regions and particle responses to coronal mass ejections and their associated shocks formed in the interplanetary medium. Most results referred to locations within 5 AU of the Sun. Although no dramatically new results were presented, continuous progress has been made. Topics of particular interest included 1) the role of perpendicular diffusion in explaining the Ulysses high latitude results, 2) comparisons between theory and observation in deriving diffusion coefficients and 3) the adequacy of diffusive shock acceleration to explain observations above about 10 MeV.
