Effect of Dioscorea nipponica Makine (DNM) on thyroid hormone of rats with Graves disease

Objective: To investigate the effect of Dioscorea nipponica Makine(DNM) on the thyroid hormone of the rats with Graves disease.Method: The rat models with Graves disease were induced by injecting Y.E bacterium into tail vein.After the rats were orally administrated DNM for one month,the thyroid hormone was measured with RIA.Results: The values of TT3,TT4,FT3,and FT4 in the DNM group were 5.38±0.52,65.23±0.36,3.66±0.42,5.89±0.46,respectively,and significantly different from that in the control group(P0.001).Conclusion: The Chinese herb DNM has the action of antithyroid.
