Safety Analysis of Battery Energy Storage System based on Electro-Thermal Coupling Simulation

The widespread implementation of energy storage systems in the energy sector has brought their thermal safety concerns into the forefront. To enhance their reliability and safety, this study analyses and evaluates the energy storage systems in detail based on the electro-thermal coupling simulation method. Initially, we created an electrochemical-thermal evaluation model, which takes into account the chemical reaction and heat evaluation process that takes place within the battery. Using this model, it is possible to simulate the electro-thermal features of the energy storage system. This includes analyzing temperature distribution and the probability of thermal runaway. Safety of the energy storage system was assessed under different operating conditions, along with the potential thermal runaway risk. Measures for enhancing the safety and reliability of the energy storage system were then proposed. The findings indicate that the electro-thermal coupling simulation-based analysis approach can accurately evaluate the safety of the energy storage system and offer vital guidance for its operation and design. This is pivotal in guaranteeing the consistent operation and security of the energy storage system.
