Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is a major complication of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Earlier identification of patients at the highest risk of developing PTS would reduce the operational burden of trials evaluating PTS treatment and allow for escalation of care before disease advancement. The 30 day Villalta score severity category has been shown to be a strong predictor of disease severity through 24 months, 1 Kahn S.R. Shrier I. Julian J.A. Ducruet T. Arsenault L. Miron M.J. et al. Since it is unknown whether these findings are generalisable to patients receiving contemporary treatments, which include a wider variety of commercially available stents, approved anticoagulation agents, and diagnostic imaging modalities, the present analysis was conducted to determine whether 30 day Villalta scores in two large interventional DVT studies were similarly associated with disease severity at later time points.
