One important feature distinguishing plants from other complex multi-cellular organisms is that the plants are sessile and thus have to endure environmental challenges such as abiotic and biotic stresses. Although abiotic and biotic stresses are clearly different from each other in their nature and each elicits specific plant responses, they also activate some common reactions in plants. In addition, there are other second messengers such as calcium, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and phytohormone like jasmonic acid, which were shown to be implicated both in abiotic and biotic stresses. So detailed analysis of CBL–CIPK in biotic stress and their relationship with abiotic stress need to be explored in plants.KeywordsFunctionBiotic stressROSSignalingCBLCIPK
