摘要
Worldwide environmental challenges include local water pollution and domestic air pollution. So, the demand for the creation of intelligent, high-performance materials is beneficial. To achieve the elements of sustainable development, it is essential to increase the production of products with value-added features with less environmental problems. As better adsorbents than thin membranes, aerogels are becoming more and more critical in water and air filtration. Natural bio-resource exploration has vast potential to decrease our reliance on petroleum products since it is driven by the overall trend of sustainable economic development. Cellulose is one of the most abundant biopolymers, constituting the structural part of the plant cell wall and many microorganisms. Cellulose-based membranes and aerogels are now becoming very significant in the field of air filtration and water purification due to their abundance, biodegradability, low density, and high mechanical strength. So, this chapter includes cellulose aerogels for wastewater treatment and air purification.
