AIM:To investigate the protective immunity against Echinococcus granulosus in mice immunized with rEgP-29 and its potential as vaccine candidate.METHODS:ICR mice were subcutaneously immunized three times with rEgP-29 and then challenged with Echinococcus granulosus.The rate of reduced hydatid cyst and the levels of IgE,IgG and IgG subclasses in sera were examined,with adjuvant group as control.RESULTS:The rate of reduced hydatid cyst in rEgP-29 group was 96.6%.The levels of IgG,IgG1,IgG2a and IgE increased obviously,that of IgG2b decreased remarkably.CONCLUSION:The rEgP-29 antigen could induce partial protection against Echinococcus granulosus.These data demonstrate the potential of rEgP-29 as a Echinococcus granulosus vaccine candidate.
