This monograph presents the theoretical and scientific framework of a geography of media that aims to develop China’s media industry in accordance with a virtuous circle that leads to continuous improvements in the communication environments and technologies of an integrated media ecosystem that will play a leading role in human affairs in the context of globalization. The methodology of media geography is multifaceted and interdisciplinary, combining critical, qualitative, and quantitative analytic techniques with methods from philosophy, systematology, cybernetics, and information theory, among others, with an emphasis on achieving harmony among diverse communities, societies, and cultures, as well as between Heaven, Earth, Man, and the media. It emphasizes the significance of phenomena resulting from human interaction in cities, regions, and countries. Studying media representations will facilitate the development of rational and effective strategies for addressing existing imbalances and inequalities and restoring equilibrium, equality, and harmony. Chinese media geographers are refining an analytic framework that will not only provide insights into how to interpret current global situations and predict future trends, but also encourage the adoption of new standards and guidelines for media policy, media management, information dissemination, and media construction of international discourse.
