Dual nickel/photoredox catalysis, which combines nickel catalysis with photocatalysis, has emerged as an elegant and practical synthetic strategy for forging various carbon-carbon bonds and accomplishing the dicarbofunctionalization of alkenes or alkynes. Among this, this regime can smoothly achieve reductive cross-couplings, including asymmetric reductive cross-couplings, using readily available electrophilic substrates as coupling partners. This approach greatly enhances chemoselectivity and functional group compatibility. Recent years have witnessed rapid advancements in this flourishing field, enabling the construction of challenging or previously elusive chemical bonds. In this review, we outline recent progress in photochemically mediated nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-couplings involving organic halide electrophiles.
