摘要
The global population has been witnessing a growing awareness of the critical importance of conserving biodiversity and preserving finite resources. However, despite this heightened awareness, the exploitation of natural resources has continued to escalate, resulting in an ecological deficit and placing an excessive burden on the planet's delicate ecosystems. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers have become increasingly conscious of the environmental repercussions tied to their consumption patterns. This heightened environmental consciousness led to a surge in demand for sustainable products. Within the cosmetic industry, concerted efforts are underway to secure a sustainable supply of ingredients and to craft value-added products from renewable resources. The lupin industry generates substantial volumes of by-products endowed with bioactive properties, including antioxidants, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-aging compounds, all of which have the capability to improve skin health. This review focuses on the innovative concept of using lupin or upcycling by-products derived from its industry, to be used as bioactive substances in topical formulations for cosmetics and dermocosmetics, a strategy that offers both tangible health benefits and positive environmental impacts. Given the limited research on the cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications of lupin seeds in comparison to other plant species, this paper aims to provide valuable insights into the utilization of lupin seeds in these specific fields.
