Intestinal Ischemia — Etiology and Foundational Concepts

Intestinal ischemia can result from various pathologic conditions. The presentations of ischemia can range from acute to subacute and from mild to severe. Diagnosis of this condition can pose challenges, particularly in the early stages of potentially salvageable disease. This review provides an overview of intestinal anatomy and a discussion of the pathophysiology and etiology of various forms of intestinal ischemia.
