Differential diagnosis and treatment of facial skin diseases in dogs

A WIDE range of diseases of varying aetiology may affect the facial skin of dogs, and these may or may not involve the nasal planum. As the specific therapies and management of many of these conditions are quite different and potent, a definitive diagnosis is vital. This article discusses some of the skin diseases which may principally affect the face, providing information on presentation, diagnosis and treatment. It also outlines a diagnostic approach to facial dermatoses in dogs, emphasising the importance of history taking, clinical examination and routine diagnostic tests.
