Adhesive Laminators

This chapter describes the configuration of adhesive laminators. It covers both industry traditional dry bond equipment (used for solvent and water-based adhesives) and solventless laminators (required for solventless adhesives). Techniques for metering and applying these two very different materials require distinct mechanisms (Premixed Solvent and water-based adhesives are applied with engraved rolls or wire rods. Solventless adhesives are mixed only when applied using a volumetric meter mixer that feeds a stack of offset rollers) to do so and these are described in the chapter. Systems to monitor over all adhesive coating weight (beta transmission, gamma backscatter, or X-ray transmission) and component-specific coating weights (infrared absorption, beta backscatter, and X-ray fluorescence).
