642 Water Exchange Method Improves the Total Examination Rate of Single Balloon Enteroscopy: A Prospective, Randomized, Controlled Trial

Enteroscopy is widely used for the examination of small bowel lesions. However, the total examination rate is currently not satisfactory (only 12-35% for single balloon enteroscopy (SBE) and 10-90% for double balloon enteroscopy). Water exchange (WE) method had been successfully used to facilitate intubation and reduce pain during colonoscopy for many years (GIE, 2013;77:767; CGH, 2015;13:1972; GIE, 2012;76:657). The role of WE in enteroscopy remains unknown. Here we investigated whether WE could increase the total examination rate of SBE compared with carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflation method.
