Durable ventricular assist device implantation in a child after double switch operation

The review was approved by the Royal Children's Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee (29123D) on August 26, 2015. The patient's guardian provided informed consent for the publication of this report. A 2.5-year-old girl weighing 13 kg presented in end-stage heart failure for ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation as a bridge to heart transplantation. She had congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries,congenital complete heart block and underwent pulmonary artery (PA) banding and permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation with a single epicardial ventricular lead on day 10 of life.
