Does a favourable social credit environment reduce corporate ESG greenwashing behaviours? Quasi-natural experimental evidence from China

This paper investigates how the social credit environment influences corporate ESG greenwashing behaviours. The finding indicates that a favourable social credit environment can reduce corporate ESG greenwashing behaviours. Our study not only extends the research on the factors influencing corporate ESG greenwashing but also provides valuable references for the government to further strengthen the social credit system to regulate corporate misconducts.
