Abstract Many routes have been reported for the synthesis of several 1,2-dithiafulvenes, but none of them was found to be versatile and facile.1–4 Therefore, a great need still exists for the development of a newer and convenient route for the synthesis of substituted 1,2-dithiafulvenes. Continuing our research principally directed towards the synthetic utilities of various ylids5–9, in the present communication some phosphonium ylids have been used in the preparation of some 5,6-diaryl-1,2-dithiafulvenes.
