Polypropylene

Abstract Polypropylene is one of the most important plastic materials. Its use has grown rapidly since its discovery in 1954. In 2015, the worldwide polypropylene demand was estimated to be 62 million tons per year; about 26% market share of thermoplastic material, second only to polyethylene (37% market share). Progress in technology following catalysts development is described. Type of polypropylene grades, influence of the operating parameters on polymer properties and application are given. A brief description of Spheripol and Spherizone , the most advanced technologies for polypropylene production, is included.
