Corrosion inhibition for steel of quaternary ammonium salt type gemini surfactant Π-14-3 and the synergistic effect of halide ions on steel in sulfuric acid medium were studied using weight loss method and polarization curves. The results revealed that the complex gemini surfactant Π-14-3 was excellent inhibitor for steel protection in sulphuric acid solution.By introducing halide ions into the corrosion inhibition system,a high inhibition efficiency for steel corrosion could be obtained at a low surfactant concentration, thereby reducing the cost of its application. The adsorption mechanism of this cationic gemini surfactant on steel surface in sulfuric acid medium was found to be fitted with Langmuir adsorption model.
