Getting the green and red lights: A method to prepare amyloid-like fibrils functionalized with phosphorescent iridium complexes was developed. When heated in aqueous acid, the insulin– iridium hybrid material self-assembles to form amyloid-like fibrils that emit light in the green or red range of the spectrum (see figure).
