A simple methodology to characterize liquid paints containing aluminium powder was developed by means of a LCR meter and a cell of high surface. Measurements of impedance in the range between 50 and 105 Hz were obtained and fitted to a simple equivalent circuit. The phase angle and the modulus of the impedance are useful to measure the amount and the quality of the aluminium powder dispersed in the organic vehicle of the tested paint. A fitting to an equivalent circuit was made. It was concluded that the measurement of the impedance with this tool is very useful for the formulation and characterization of paints rich in aluminium powder.
