• UV-curing and ATRP treatment are combined to prepare superhydrophobic surfaces. • The superhydrophobic surface has outstanding chemical and mechanical stability. • The SLIPS was obtained by injecting lubricant into the superhydrophobic surface. • The service life of the SLIPS has been significantly improved. • The universality repellency of the SLIPS enables it for self-cleaning/anti-fouling. Benefiting from its low surface energy, low surface tension and high efficiency of droplet mobility, Slippery liquid infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) are being applied in the fields like self-cleaning, anti-icing, thermal transfer etc . Nevertheless, the short service life and the complex preparation procedures are still hindering its further practical applications. In this work, with the combination of UV-curing technique and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) treatment, superhydrophobic surface (SHS) with a chemical stability in a corrosive environment and an excellent mechanical resistance is prepared in a facile way. Profiting from the ultra-high affinity between SHS and lubricant oil, as-prepared SLIPS based on SHS exhibited an ultra-long service life. Compared with other commonly used SLIPS, the service life of resultant SLIPS in this work extends 50 times, which can bear a 3000 mL of continuous water droplet washing. As-prepared SLIPS is a promising candidate for the application in self-cleaning.
