Anti-inflammatory effect of xanthomicrol, a major colonic metabolite of 5-demethyltangeretin

Orally administered 5-demethyltengeretin (5DT) was mainly metabolized to form xanthomicrol (XAN) in mice. The colonic level of XAN was much higher than that of 5DT. Furthermore, XAN exerted very potent anti-inflammatory effectin vitro. These results provided insights on the beneficial effects of 5DT.
