Abstract The book examines the different aspects of Myanmar political history and how different domestic and international agencies played a role in the country’s political transition. It covers Myanmar in the following historical antecedent: pre-independence to the first civilian government; the subsequent political transition from civilian government to military dictatorship, and the transition from authoritarian regime to a democratic government. It attempts to help both academics and general readers who have research and teaching interests or a desire to understand some historical knowledge as to how different political actors played differing roles in the country’s transition from one form of government to another.
