摘要
The temperature of objects can be measured using in situ or remote sensors. Remote sensing in the thermal-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, however, provides the apparent temperature measurements in a spatial (image) format which facilitates temperature mapping throughout a finite geographic area. This paper identifies fundamental considerations which must be addressed when conducting remote sensing temperature mapping, including user requirements, sensor system parameters, and cartographic analysis and display alternatives. An overview of these concepts is followed by an application of remote sensing temperature mapping of thermal plumes that demonstrates the logic.
