Traditional and modern wound dressings—characteristics of ideal wound dressings

The skin is the most important organ for protecting the body's internal organs from environmental hazards. Skin wounds from both external and internal wounds are common. Healing can be hampered by the body's weakened immune system or the severity of the wound. As a result, wound care becomes critical in these situations. Infections, particularly microbial infections, are the most common side effects of skin wounds. This chapter describes the most recent technologies and techniques for developing wound dressings. Wound dressings are thus widely used to encourage and improve wound healing for full body skin recovery. The distinction between passive and smart wound dressings is highlighted. The findings of this chapter will stimulate new research into wound dressings and drug-eluting constructions.
