摘要
This chapter discusses environmental ethics and encouraging sustainability in the design and construction processes and estates strategies. It outlines the recent trends in climate change and government pledges and targets to reduce greenhouse gases and carbon generation and the associated challenges around meeting such commitments. The chapter then explains the importance of sustainability and the ethical case for participation, articulating the benefits for engaging with the environmental agenda. In addition, the potential disadvantages and risk for organisations from non-participation in environmental sustainability reforms and improvements are covered including the irreprovable damage that can be enacted for the planet through climate change. The chapter then outlines the global and national agenda on sustainability and articulate world targets for issues around reducing carbon generation. Environmental social responsibility is covered in the chapter and the mechanisms by which organisations can make a positive impact and example for others to follow.
