MXenes have traditionally been obtained with poor controllability due to the complex interactions between MAX precursors and etchants in up-bottom synthesis. Recently in Science, two independent research teams reported highly innovative MXene synthesis schemes comprising improved up-bottom and novel bottom-up routes, enabling all-around customization of various MXenes.
