A novel method of nondestructive inspection (NDI), intended for investigating the surface of electro-conductive objects using intermediate flexible magnetic medium, is described. This method is called eddy current (EC)–magnetography (MG)–magneto-optic imaging (MOI), because it includes a sequence of the following main steps: exciting EC in the studied sample, MG, which is a magnetic recording of magnetic leakage fields induced by EC, and MOI of the obtained MG. Basic operating principles and structures of EC, MG and MOI methods are specified. Experimental research results for a wide class of defects in conductive non-ferromagnetic and ferromagnetic samples are presented, which confirm high sensitivity and multifunctionality of this method.
