In this study, we investigated an application non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis to capillary gel electrophoresis to achieve highly efficient analysis of metal complexes. In this non-aqueous capillary gel electrophoresis (NACGE), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for the running solution. In addition, to enhance the entanglement of HPMC chains, Li+ ions were also added. By employing the running DMSO solution, we studied the effects of the molecular weight and the HPMC and Li+ concentrations on the separation. As a result, good separations of standard mononuclear metal complexes and tetra-iron nanoclusters were achieved by NACGE.
