Objective To study the acute toxicity of phoxim,isofenphos-methyl and acephate to New Zealand rabbit. Methods The acute toxicity test was carried out in the 150 male and clearing grade New Zealand rabbits, treated with the agents through gavage at 3 ml/kg.The control group(distilled water) and three treatment groups with 5 concentration gradients of phoxim(1.578-2.778 g/kg),isofenphos-methyl(0.011-0.015 g/kg) and acephate(0.052-0.132 g/kg) by the equal difference spacing pattern, respectively. The acute toxic effect characteristics, toxigenicity effect and safe concentration of phoxim,isofenphos-methyl and acephate to New Zealand rabbit were evaluated in the test. Results The half lethal concentrations in 96 h of phoxim,isofenphos-methyl and acephate to New Zealand rabbit were 2.458,0.011 and 0.085 g/kg,respectively.The safe concentrations of phoxim,isofenphos-methyl and acephate to New Zealand rabbit were 0.246,0.001 and 0.009 g/kg,respectively.The acute toxic effect with accumulation was observed, and ranked as isofenphos-methylacephatephoxim.Conclusion Phoxim is considered as the low-toxic phosphate pesticide, acephate as the moderate-toxic phosphate pesticide and isofenphos-methyl as the high-toxic phosphate pesticide to New Zealand rabbit.
