Research status of CDH17,a new member of cadherin superfamily,and gastric cancer

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the structural and functional features of liver-intestine cadherin(CDH17),and explore its relation between CDH17 and gastric cancer.METHODS: The articles was searched in PubMed,Wanfang and CNKI from 2000 to 2010 with CDH17,stomach neoplasms,carcinogenesis,et al as the Key words .A total of 78 papers related were collected,and finally 24 were used.Choice criteria:1)The structure and function of CDH17;2)The expression of CDH17 in cancer;3)The expression of CDH17 in stomach cancer.RESULTS: CDH17,a new member of cadherin of the cadherin superfamily,has only 18 amino acid residues in its cytoplasmic domain and 7 repeated homologous cadherin domain in the extracellular portion.The AAL sequence motif in the extracellular domain,which is distinguished from other cadherins.The function of CDH17 in cell-cell adhesion is independent of cytoplasmic interactions.CDH17 was up-regulated in gastric cancer and significantly correlated with carcinogenesis,progression,metastasis and prognosis,but the mechanism is not well elucidated.CONCLUSION:CDH17 can serve as a novel biomarker for diagnosis,prognosis and treatment in human stomach neoplasms.
