Abstract A method is given for estimating the parameters K and β in the so‐called Mark‐Houwink equation from measurements of molecular weight, intrinsic viscosity and second virial coefficient of a single polymer sample. Although the treatment is based on existing theories, certain approximations and its connection with the empirical Mark‐Houwink equation reduce it to semi‐empiricism. The method is restricted to linear polymers. Examples drawn from the literature are used to test the method.
