Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a Lanthanum-Nitronyl Nitroxide Complex

A new La(III)–radical complex [La(hfac)3(NITFuCH2OH)]2· [La(hfac)3(NITFuCH2OH)] (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate; and NITFuCH2OH = 2-[5-(1-hydroxymethyl)-furyl]-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex consists of one dinuclear [La(hfac)3(NITFuCH2OH)]2 unit, in which the La(III) ion is eight-coordinated in a dodecahedron geometry, and one mononuclear [La(hfac)3(NITFuCH2OH)] unit, in which the La(III) ion is 10-coordinated in a dual cap dodecahedron geometry.
