摘要
Plastics made from nonrenewable petroleum sources are increasingly being used in agriculture, posing a significant environmental danger. Plastic garbage from transplanting pots is generated in huge quantities by horticultural operations, as well as landscaping plant cultivation, and is rarely recycled. Biodegradable pots and bags are a good alternative to nondegradable pots as they are safe to the environment. Despite this, only a few studies have been conducted on the preparation and characterization of biodegradable planting pots. Planting pots made of biodegradable materials eliminate the need for transplanting and, as a result, the need to discard a container. When placed in the ground, pots made of biodegradable polymers will decompose. This chapter summarizes the most recent research on biopots (biodegradable planting pots) made of bioplastics. Bioplastics, which are commonly reinforced with plant or wood fibers, could be a viable substitute to traditional petro-based pots for horticulture and floriculture containers in terms of plant development and functionality.
