摘要
Analysis of deep phylogenetic relationships among GFP-like proteins, including several currently known non-cnidarian proteins, provides clues to the evolution of functions within the gene family. Since in GFP-like proteins color is determined by a sequence of a single gene, there is a unique opportunity to address evolution of natural coloration directly using molecular phylogenetic tools.
