Abstract Boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) were first time successfully exfoliated from hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) in an ethanol‐sodium hydroxide media using a microwave irradiation method. This simple and low‐cost exfoliation method enabled the fast produce of high quality BNNS within 2 min. The average sheet thickness and lateral size of BNNS were 4.34 nm and 1.13 μm, respectively. The exfoliated BNNS bear a strong negative charge and was demonstrated to be an excellent platform for depositing high density nanoparticles after proper surface modification. As an example, unique core‐shell nanostructure of BNNS/dense palladium nanoparticles was synthesized and its electrochemical catalytic behaviour towards the oxidation of paracetamol was studied in detail.
