摘要
Dyslipidemia in diabetics can cause significant cardiac conditions. The main aim of this study was to detect the antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activity of aqueous extract of Platycladus orientalis in Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in rats through an intraperitonial injection of streptozotocine (STZ) (55 mg/kg). In order to detect the antidiabetic activity, the extracts of Platycladus orientals was given orally at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg daily for 28 days. On day 28 the serum lipid profile that is total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), etc. were estimated. The antioxidant parameters such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), TBRA and coronary artery disease (CAD) were also evaluated. The aqueous extracted at doses of 200 mg/kg significantly decreased the lipid parameters on the 28th day (152.33 ± 2.06**) as compared to glibenclamide (135 ± 2.72**) – alanine transaminase (ALT) (48.82 ± 0.44**), aspartate aminotransferase (65.18 ± 0.32**), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (63.38 ± 0.76*), protein (PRO) (14.26 ± 0.50**), ingestion of carbohydrate (CHO) (83.45 ± 0.33**) LDL (40.23 ± 0.93**), VLDL (25.51 ± 1.14**). It increased the HDL levels (18.88 ± 0.21**) as compared to diabetic control rats. The present study demonstrated that the aqueous extract from P. orientalis exhibits a potent antihyperlipidemic activity in hyperglycemic rats along with good antioxidant property and suggests that the plant may have therapeutic value in treating the diabetic complication of hyperlipidemia.
