Layout of sprinkler systems is unique to every field, and it depends on the shape, topography of the field, pressure and available discharge rate. Figure 1 shows a very simple lay out. Figure 2 shows a complex layout and the configuration of main, submain and laterals at different locations of the field and also the plan of direction of shifting laterals at every location. Some general guidelines presented in this chapter are very useful in deciding the layout of sprinkler irrigation systems.
