Direct observation of coherency strains in a copper-cobalt alloy

Abstract Transmission electron micrographs of aged copper-3.12% cobalt foils show unusual contrast effects consistent with those calculated for coherency strains about spherical precipitates. The shape and size of the particles seen are in agreement with earlier conclusions based on bulk magnetic measurements.
