Enhanced formation of ethylene and alcohols at ambient temperature and pressure in electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide at a copper electrode

In the electroreduction of CO2 at a copper cathode in aqueous solution at ambient temperature and pressure the faradaic yield of C2H4 amounted to 48%, and appreciable amounts of EtOH and PrnOH were formed; the selectivity of the products depends strongly upon the electrolytes.
