摘要
Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) with filling ability and no need for vibration, is advantageous over regular concrete due to its less construction time, labor cost, and noise pollution. Population growth and the demand for construction materials such as cement, lead to the rise in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and higher air pollution. An approximation of 6% of the total CO2 emission is imputed to the cement production industry. In this regard, Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) have been proposed to reduce cement utilization and CO2 emission. Metakaolin (MK) is an alternative that can be used to partially replace cement to save energy and reduce the environmental damage caused by cement consumption. A review of utilization of metakaolin on the properties of self-consolidating concrete is carried out in this study concerning fresh, hardened, and durability properties as well as microstructure. As the result, satisfactory data have been collected which provide comprehensive information regarding the behavior of SCCs incorporating MK.
